Africa and the Obama Administration

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton began an 11 day visit to Africa that includes stops in seven key African countries including: Kenya, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria and Angola. The trip comes on the heels of President Obama’s visit to Ghana in June and sends the message that the administration considers Africa a key foreign policy priority. Ernest Aryeetey, director of the Africa Growth Initiative, says African nations view Secretary Clinton’s trip so early in her term as a smart move, adding her visit there instills a sense of optimism about U.S.-Africa relations.
