Five years ago, the United States Agency for International Development launched the Local Solutions initiative to invest directly in local partnerships as part of a larger effort to make US assistance more effective and sustainable. Earlier this year, Save the Children conducted research in the Philippines to learn how the USAID Mission was incorporating Local Solutions into its programming, particularly how they were directly funding and partnering with local institutions.

On June 10, the Brookings Global Economy and Development program will join Save the Children for the release of a report detailing how USAID is working in the Philippines with government departments, local NGOs and the private sector to foster greater ownership, sustainability and capacity. The report highlights specific projects and local perspectives that strengthen the case for working locally. Two representatives from Filipino organizations discussed in the report will join a panel discussion to provide a unique partner view on USAID’s efforts to change the way it works in the Philippines. Questions will be taken from the audience following the discussion.
