Ahead of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund annual meetings being held in Washington, DC from October 7 to 9, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim set out his vision for ending extreme poverty by 2030 and boosting shared prosperity. He spoke about the links between growth, poverty and inequality, the changing face of poverty, and the role the World Bank Group can play in continuing the remarkable story of progress in global development. He addressed the global challenges that threaten to derail this progress and the path to achieving the scale of change necessary to achieve the organization’s twin goals in a sustainable way.

After an introduction by Brookings President Strobe Talbott, Jim Yong Kim delivered his speech and engaged in a conversation with Kemal Derviş, vice president and director for the Global Economy and Development program at Brookings.
