The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed by President Barack Obama in February 2009, provides a mix of financial assistance for hard-hit families and businesses, infrastructure and technology investments and tax cuts designed to help put the U.S. economy back on a path toward long-term economic growth. As the chief Administration official entrusted with the implementation of the stimulus plan, Vice President Joe Biden has a unique perspective on the accomplishments of the program during its first six months as well as the work that lies ahead.

On Thursday, September 3, the Brookings Institution hosted the Vice President for a discussion of the current economic situation and the status of the recovery plan. The Vice President, formerly a long-time Senator from Delaware, shared the administration’s top-level view of the Recovery Act and the future of the nation’s economy.

Brookings President Strobe Talbott provided introductory remarks. After the program, Vice President Biden fielded audience questions.
