Over the past decade the private sector has come to be seen as an increasingly essential partner in promoting economic growth and reducing global poverty around the world. Both governments and civil society now find the financial and intellectual contributions of the private sector to be critical, and the growth of public private partnerships in which all parties participate and share responsibilities in a common effort reflects this.

On October 10, the Global Economy and Development program at Brookings hosted a discussion with Danish Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation Mogens Jensen. The Minister discussed Denmark’s experience in the movement to work with public private partnerships, current opportunities and challenges, and the broader dynamics of corporate social responsibility. Following his remarks, the Minister joined a panel discussion with Philip Armstrong, head of the global corporate governance forum at the International Finance Corporation, Tara Nathan, executive director of public private partnerships at MasterCard, and John Morton, chief of staff to the president at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. Brookings Senior Fellow George Ingram moderated.
