Neoconservatism and the Future of American Foreign Policy

In a new book, Neoconservatism – The Biography of a Movement (Harvard University Press, 2010), Brookings Senior Fellow Justin Vaïsse offers a comprehensive new history of the neoconservative movement and its impact on American foreign policy. He argues that neoconservatism still constitutes an important school of thought and predicts that it will play a meaningful role in shaping U.S. diplomacy in the future.

On May 13, the Brookings Institution hosted the launch of Neoconservatism – The Biography of a Movement. To discuss the issues raised by the book, Vaïsse was joined by E.J. Dionne, Jr., Brookings senior fellow and columnist for the Washington Post; Francis Fukuyama, Bernard L. Schwartz professor at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University; and William Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard. Brookings President Strobe Talbott provided introductory remarks.
