Privacy, the “Internet of Things,” and net neutrality are challenging policymakers in the United States – and having ripple effects around the world. Regulatory threats to Internet freedom are becoming more serious at a time when an open Internet is critical to a nation’s free expression and digital innovation. How can an uncensored Internet best be preserved and what impact would a regulated Internet have on digital development in the United States and around the world? 

On June 4, the Center for Technology Innovation at Brookings hosted an event to discuss the intersection of evolving internet technology with citizens’ First Amendment rights, featuring Gary Shapiro, the president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association.
