Content from the Brookings-Tsinghua Public Policy Center is now archived. Since October 1, 2020, Brookings has maintained a limited partnership with Tsinghua University School of Public Policy and Management that is intended to facilitate jointly organized dialogues, meetings, and/or events.

On March 17, 2015, the Brookings-Tsinghua Center hosted a public talk on the impact of Renminbi internationalization, featuring Eswar Prasad, senior fellow in Global Economy and Development Studies at the Brookings Institution, and guest commentator Qian Yingyi, Dean and Professor of School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University.

Eswar Prasad drew upon his recent book The Dollar Trap to discuss the current state of the international monetary system, prospects for the Renminbi to become a global reserve currency, the danger of currency wars, and the path forward to a more stable system.

Qian Yingyi and Yu Qiao (nonresident senior fellow at Brookings-Tsinghua Center) provided commentary after the talk.
