Age of AI: Perspectives, paradigms & policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has garnered much national attention in recent years. Having emerged from pure academia in the 1950s, AI technology has come to play important roles in our society. Big data, IoT, and autonomous driving are just a few of the innovative fields that have become ubiquitous with AI applications. Traditionally perceived as an aid to human, AI’s growing capabilities have grown to draw concerns of its potential to not only empower society, but to also threaten it. To what extent will AI impact our lives? Could an AI apocalypse born from science fiction become a reality? What are we doing with, and what can we do about the rise of AI? These questions have become major discussion points among communities from the academia, government, and businesses.

On March 16th, the Brookings-Tsinghua Center for Public Policy will host a panel discussion on the social and economic impact of AI with IBM Institute for Business Value Research Director Anthony Marshall. The discussion also will feature experts in public policy and information design.
