Eight leading American and Japanese specialists examine the potential for Japanese-American cooperation in UN peacemaking and peace enforcement. They discuss ongoing domestic political controversy in both countries over whether and when to support such UN efforts, review the record of UN intervention in key arenas of conflict, and suggest criteria that should govern UN intervention in specific cases. The book is the result of a research project sponsored by the Carnegie Endowment and the Research Institute of Peace and Security in Tokyo.
