The 2001 edition of this annual publication considers events that have an important impact on Asia Pacific security: the dramatic summit meeting and other developments on the Korean peninsula; presidential elections in Russia, Taiwan, and the United States; continuing instability in Timor and elsewhere in Indonesia, and tensions in South Asia between India and Pakistan; concerns over new technologies such as missile defense and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and delivery systems; and renewed concerns over energy supplies to the region in light of new violence in the Middle East.
The Asia Pacific Security Outlook series monitors changing perceptions of national security environments, key defense issues, and national contributions to regional and global security. A multinational team of security experts presents 20 individual country reports – including, for the first time, on Mongolia.
