FixGov Series Previews the 2014 State of the Union Address

On January 28th, President Obama will fulfill his constitutional duty to “give to Congress information on the State of the Union…” But this State of the Union also provides an opportunity to evaluate the incumbent President as he enters his sixth year. In the days leading up to the speech, Brookings scholars from the Center for Effective Public Management and outside experts recruited by us will deliver daily posts on what the President should include—or avoid—as well as what a Republican State of the Union might look like. Here at FixGov, you will be able to find recommendations for and reactions to the President’s annual address. Amidst a barrage of SOTU predictions, we will ignore the political crystal-ball reading, and rather consider what the country needs to hear from its president and how that message may be put into action.
