Nearly 100 Republican Incumbents face challengers who have raised over $50,000

A record number of Democrats are challenging congressional Republican incumbents, and according to Michael Malbin, the executive director for the Campaign Finance Institute, 210 of those challengers have already raised at least $50,000. Malbin’s study shows that after accounting for multiple candidates running against the same incumbent, 118 sitting members of Congress have challengers from opposing parties with at least $50,000.

NEARLY 100 MILLION PEOPLE IN HIGH-INCOME COUNTRIES STILL SUFFER FROM FOOD INSECURITY

According Global Economy and Development  experts Homi Kharas and John McArthur, the world is off track to meet its goal of ending world hunger by 2030. Results from a new Gallup poll suggest that little progress has been made within the last decade, and that even in high-income countries with advanced economies nearly 10 percent of the population suffers from food insecurity.

METRO AREAS ACCOUNT FOR 63 PERCENT OF THE UNITED STATES’ TOTAL WATER USAGE

The United States’ use of water is declining as a result of conservation measures and new technology, but American’s still use nearly 355 billion gallons every day. Research from Metropolitan Policy Program expert Joseph Kane found that cities are responsible for the bulk of water usage, accounting for nearly 221 billion gallons a day.
