Shadi Hamid: Muslim Brotherhood Willing to Die for Their Cause in Egypt

Shadi Hamid, director of research for the Brookings Doha Center, spoke on Al Jazeera English Wednesday as the Egyptian military cracked down on protestors in Egypt.

Hamid, who was just in Egypt and met with Muslim Brotherhood officials, said that they were adamant that “they were willing to ‘die for their cause’ if that’s what it came down to.”

What we’re seeing is the disappearance of even the slightest hope of national reconciliation. … No one is going to sit down at a table and negotiate under fire. The Brotherhood isn’t going to have any faith in the political process when they are being gunned down. … I’m really worried that this is the end of the beginning of this new phase in Egyptian history.
