The Brookings Blum Roundtable turns 10 this month. Ten years of focusing on innovative solutions to tacking global poverty and development challenges. A newly-updated section of the Brookings website offers you a way to explore themes from the past decade, including the conference reports, participants’ lists, and policy briefs.
Starting in 2004, the Brookings Blum Roundtable, part of the Development Assistance and Governance Initiative in the Global Economy and Development program at Brookings, has convened an annual meeting of global leaders in the public, private and non-profit sectors to explore ideas and engage in dialogue to develop recommendations for change. Each year, the roundtable has explored a theme, such as America’s role in the fight against global poverty; coping with climate change; and, innovation and technology for development.
Participants have included former Vice President Al Gore; former secretaries of state Madeleine Albright and Condoleezza Rice; journalists Fareed Zakaria and Nichols Kristof; Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan; USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah; Liberia’s minister for planning and economic affairs Amara Konneh; university leaders from around the world; and representatives from the private sector including Unilever, MasterCard Worldwide and Goldman Sachs.
This year, the roundtable’s theme is “The Private Sector in the New Global Development Agenda.” You can read the policy briefs as they roll out during the conference sesseions.
