Shadi Hamid says that while Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and Tunisia’s Ennahda parties are willing to come to terms with liberal democracy—at least in the short-term—they are somewhat illiberal. Hamid concludes that Islamist ambition is latent in the case of both parties, and says larger ideological battles have yet to come to the fore.
