Daniel Byman is a senior fellow in the Center for Middle East Policy at Brookings. His research focuses on counterterrorism and Middle East security. Byman is also a professor in Georgetown University's Security Studies Program. He served as a staff member on the 9/11 Commission and worked for the U.S. government. His most recent book is "Al Qaeda, the Islamic State, and the Global Jihadist Movement: What Everyone Needs to Know" (Oxford University Press, 2015).
