Leaders of the Western Hemisphere gathered in Trinidad and Tobago on April 17-19, 2009 for the fifth Summit of the Americas. The meetings offered an opportunity for policymakers to partner on a new and robust regional agenda that spans global economic, social, energy and climate change issues. President Obama reiterated U.S. committment of foreign aid and highlighted the need for countries to confront transnational drug and security challenges.
