On April 30, 2014 Iraq will hold national elections and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki looks to secure his third term in office. Senior Fellow at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy Kenneth M. Pollack recently returned from a trip in the region, and argues that despite Washington’s seemingly low-profile interest in Iraq’s national elections, Iraq’s neighbor Iran is fully focused on the elections, as the final results at the ballot box could determine the future stability of Iraq.
