2007 Health Challenge Think Tank

A Complex Systems Approach to Understanding and Reversing the Obesity Epidemic

CSED Fellow Ross A. Hammond recently gave a major address at the 2007 McGill Health Challenge Think Tank. This event brought together top international obesity experts—from academia, government, industry, and non-profit—to work toward a comprehensive, multi-level, multi-sector approach to the worldwide obesity pandemic.

Hammond was invited to discuss how Complex Systems insights and techniques, as pioneered at CSED, can play a key role in facilitating this integrated approach. The event drew key international scientists, stakeholders, and decision-makers, including representatives from the Food and Health Organization of the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the CDC, the Culinary Institute of America, the Clinton Foundation/American Heart Association’s Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, as well as from Unilever, PepsiCo, Kellogg, Sodexho, and from major US and European research universities.
