The Transparency & Accountability Project (TAP), works to improve governance in developing countries by strengthening the mechanisms by which the public can hold governments accountable. A major focus of the project is on the capacity of local civil society organizations to monitor and analyze public expenditure processes and advocate for a more effective use of scarce public resources that can lead to better development outcomes.
TAP’s goal is to change the development conversation by creating a new focus and domestic capacity (outside of government) for analyzing and advocating for better public expenditure management to raise the effectiveness of development efforts. In doing this, TAP expects to (i) build the capacity of CSOs within developing countries, (ii) motivate improvements in public expenditure management (both in institutions and policies), and (iii) complement the work of partner organizations so as to strengthen their ability to have similar positive impacts. The beneficiaries of TAP’s various activities include poor people in developing countries, CSOs, low- and middle-income country governments, partner organizations, and researchers.
