Since its launch in April 2006, The Hamilton Project has undertaken a significant policy agenda with input from leading thinkers in academia, business and public policy communities. The Project has released over 20 policy papers on subjects ranging from energy policy to health care to economic security, and we have a strong research agenda planned for 2008.
Most recently, The Hamilton Project hosted a roundtable discussion entitled "If, When, How? Prospects for Fiscal Stimulus in the U.S. Economy". In addition to the release of a fiscal stimulus primer, the event featured a roundtable discussion including Harvard Economist Martin Feldstein, Hamilton Project Director Jason Furman, Brookings Senior Fellow and former CBO Director Alice Rivlin, and Moody's Economy.com Chief Economist Mark Zandi. Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin moderated the panel. This event helped to build a consensus around three principles for fiscal stimulus that Hamilton Project Advisory Council members Gene Sperling and Larry Summers have both advocated: that it be timely, targeted, and temporary.
In December we released a strategy paper and four new discussion papers and held a forum on Facilitating and Rewarding Work. The discussion papers released featured approaches to creating incentives and opportunities for low-income earners to enter the labor force and find jobs. A second panel of experts spoke more generally about ways to reduce poverty, make work pay, and promote job development and placement within some of the most at-risk communities.
Earlier in the fall we also announced the second annual Hamilton Project Economic Policy Innovation Prize which will award $25,000 in prizes for the best innovative policy proposals written by undergraduate and graduate-level students.
We thank you for your interest and support and we look forward to an exciting and productive 2008.
