Release of the Great Lakes Economic Initiative Report: “Blueprint for Bi-National Prosperity: Reclaiming Great Lakes Leadership as Economic Engine for US and Canada” March 24-27, 2008
This new report lays out the economic opportunities of the bi-national Great Lakes region, its importance to both nation’s economies, and a specific set of policy recommendations for how U.S. and Canadian leadership can strengthen the bi-national economies of the Great Lakes region, and, in the process, ultimately increase the competitiveness of both nations.

    Summit of Midwestern Regional Chambers of Commerce, The Henry Ford, Dearborn Michigan, February 11-12, 2008
    Brookings Institution Metro Program, joined by Presidents of Chambers of Commerce of Chicago, Detroit, Toledo, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh, and with financial support from the Michigan State University Land Policy Institute, convened 30-40 peers from the Midwest’s regional chambers of commerce to participate in a state and national policy intiative around the Brookings Institution’s Blueprint for Prosperity and Great Lakes Economic Initiative.

    Meeting of Great Lakes urban leaders to organize GLUE – the Great Lakes Urban Exchange, Buffalo, New York, January 2008
    GLUE is a a regionwide effort as a part of the GLEI effort to build a network of young leaders committed to revival of the “post-industrial” cities of the Great Lakes, and plan the development and distribution of new media pieces on how to understand and develop Great Lakes cities to be vital urban centers attractive to young talent.
