The Global Health Initiative was created in 2006 within the Global Economy and Development program to examine innovative financing instruments that not only help increase financial resources, but also improve health systems in developing countries. Through in-depth research and work, the initiative evaluated and established potential health financing proposals and developed practical recommendations to fill financing gaps in global health by utilizing tools of public and commercial finance, aid and philanthropy.

Global health and improving health systems in developing countries continue to be part of the research agenda for the Global Economy and Development program.

The project's research and commentary is listed below; a health snapshots series is also available.
