and St. Louis
April 15 (tax day) saw the tour address the annual conference of the International Economic Development Council in Alexandria, VA. Tour members –Paul Cullinan, Harry Zeeve (Concord Coalition), and Brian Riedl (Heritage Foundation)—outlined the dimensions and sources of the upcoming fiscal imbalance and discussed some of the policy approaches for countering the problem before nearly 100 economic development professionals.
St. Louis, MO (April 28) was the next stop for the tour, which began with the Business and Community Leaders Breakfast hosted by St. Louis University. Over 75 leaders listened to Paul Cullinan, Bob Bixby, David Walker, and Brian Riedl detail the coming fiscal crisis and discuss potential policy alternatives. Tour members then migrated downtown to meet with the editorial board of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to describe the purpose of the tour, the scope of the fiscal challenges facing the country, and the need to address the budget imbalance sooner rather than later.
