New Jersey has four of the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas—New York, Philadelphia, Trenton, and Allentown—which alone account for 94 percent of the state’s population, 94 percent of the state’s jobs, and 95 percent of the state’s gross domestic product (GDP). Because the state is completely covered by metropolitan areas, all seven of New Jersey’s metros constitute 100 percent of the state’s population, jobs, and GDP.
