Indiana has four of the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas—Indianapolis, Chicago, Louisville, and Cincinnati—which alone account for 42 percent of the state’s population, 43 percent of the state’s jobs, and 49 percent of the state’s gross domestic product (GDP). All 16 of Indiana’s metros constitute 78 percent of the state’s population, 81 percent of the state’s jobs, and 84 percent of the state’s GDP.
