An Emerging China in a World of Interdependence

Michael Oksenberg, who passed away in February 2001, was Senior Fellow at the Asia Pacific Research Center and Professor of Political Science at Stanford University. His research specialties included Chinese domestic affairs, China's foreign policy, Sino-American relations, and East Asian political development.

Yoichi Funabashi is chief diplomatic correspondent and columnist at the Asahi Shimbun in Tokyo. He is the editor of Reconciliation in the Asia-Pacific (United States Institute of Peace Press, 2003), the author of Alliance Adrift (Council on Foreign Relations Press, 1998), and a coauthor of China-Japan-U.S. Relations: Meeting New Challenges (Japan Center for International Exchange, 2002).
