Is the Recession Over?

A mix of economic indicators released last week showed positive economic growth but also a plunge in consumer spending. Brookings experts responded to the mixed news with analysis of the uneven recovery. Karen Dynan testified on how consumer spending is likely to continue to be weak. Wealth losses, she says, will dampen consumption growth this year by 2 to 3.5 percent.

President Barack Obama arrives in Tokyo on November 12, beginning his first visit to Asia as president. On November 6, Brookings hosts a discussion of the issues he is likely to face on the trip.
