Jonathan Rothwell Senior Research Analyst,
Metropolitan Policy Program
Jonathan Rothwell is a senior research analyst who has been working on a variety of topics since joining the Metropolitan Policy program in June of 2009, ranging from the impact of macroeconomic trends on metropolitan areas, to metropolitan exports, industrial policy, and federal governance.
Jonathan came to Brookings straight from graduate school where he was an assistant instructor for a class on Race and Public Policy and wrote his dissertation on the origins and effects of zoning regulations in the United States. He has published two chapters of his dissertation in the academic journals Urban Affairs Review and Social Science Quarterly. The papers show that anti-density land regulations create racial and class segregation in metropolitan areas. Jonathan has also worked as a senior research analyst at Haver Analytics and interned at the Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs, both in Manhattan. He holds a PhD in Public Policy from Princeton University, a MA in economics from the New School, and a BS in Psychology from Penn State.
