The EU Referendums and the Future of Europe

The day after Dutch voters rejected the EU constitution by a resounding 62%, Ivo Daalder reports from Amsterdam on the stunned reaction. Joining him on The Diane Rehm Show are John Hulsman, senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation, and Ambassador John Bruton, Head of the European Union delegation to the U.S., to discuss the roots of the no votes in both France and the Netherlands as well as their implications for Europe and the transatlantic relationship. This week's referendums were the first time voters had the opportunity to speak out on the European Union after the implementation of the euro and the ten country enlargement. Daalder argues that the Dutch wanted more control over economical and political decisions because they viewed Brussels as becoming too intrusive.
