Iraqi Political Process

Iraq's national assembly broke down Tuesday into ethnic divisions and was unable to elect a presiding speaker. Such problems do not bode well for writing a constitution by the August 15th deadline. Ivo Daalder, Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution, Amb. Rend al-Rahim, executive director of the Iraq Foundation and former Ambassador to the U.S. for Iraqi Governing Council, and Reuel Marc Gerecht, resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, discuss the latest on the Iraqi political process. Daalder argues that it is now time for Shiites, Sunnis, and Kurds to work out the difficulties on their own through political dialogue. Only Iraqis can foster this discussion, so the U.S. should not get involved.
