Shibley Telhami is a nonresident senior fellow with the Project on U.S. Relations with the Islamic World, part of the Center on Middle East Policy at Brookings. He is the Anwar Sadat professor for peace and development at the University of Maryland. In the past, Telhami served as senior advisor to the U.S. Department of State, advisor to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, advisor to Congressman Lee Hamilton, and as and as an expert advisor to the Iraq Study Group, facilitated by the United States Institute of Peace. He is an expert on U.S. policy in the Middle East, particularly on the role of the news media in shaping political identity and public opinion in the region.
