In April 2012, South Korea’s ruling conservative party scored an unexpected victory in the National Assembly elections while a series of political events in North Korea worked to solidify the succession of Kim Jong-un.
On April 24, the Center for Northeast Asian Policy at Brookings and the U.S.-Korea Institute at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies hosted a discussion on the results of these events and their policy implications for U.S.-ROK relations and North Korea’s foreign policy strategies, featuring Sang Yoon-Ma of the Catholic University of Korea and Alexandre Mansourov of the U.S.-Korea Institute. CNAPS Director Richard Bush provided opening remarks and USKI Director Jae Ku moderated the discussion.
