Event Summary

While economic policies during the past year have focused on leading the United States from crisis to recovery, longer-term fiscal issues are also becoming more serious. After months of increased spending aimed at pulling the economy out of recession, the soaring U.S. budget deficit has only worsened -- projected to total more than $1 trillion for the fiscal year that ends on September 30.
