Attack on Iraq: Where Do We Go From Here?

Iraq, Middle East, Islamic World, Force and Legitimacy, Sanctions

Event Summary

Operation Desert Fox raises more questions than it answers as world leaders grapple with the next set of imponderables:
  • How long will it last and with what level of world support?
  • What are the next steps beyond bombing in the escalating U.S. campaign to contain Saddam Hussein and eliminate his weapons of mass destruction? What does it mean for the future of UNSCOM?
  • How will domestic political reaction affect the Administration's ability to carry out its goals?
  • Do the attacks mark a fundamental shift in U.S. policy toward Iraq? What are the prospects for promoting regime change?
