Our Vision Advisory Council Staff Experts

Hamilton Project

Since its launch in April 2006, The Hamilton Project has undertaken a significant policy agenda with input from leading thinkers in academia, business and public policy communities. The Project has released over 20 policy papers on subjects ranging from energy policy to health care to economic security.

In 2008 we have focused significant attention to our current economic challenges, starting with the release of a fiscal stimulus primer and a roundtable discussion to discuss what economists know about fiscal stimulus – if it is appropriate, when it should be implemented, and how should it be done. This event helped to build a consensus around three principles for fiscal stimulus: that it be timely, targeted, and temporary. More recently we hosted a discussion on proposed policy responses for addressing the foreclosure crisis and also partnered with the Commission on Growth and Development to host a discussion on the role economic growth in reducing poverty in developing nations.

On Thursday, June 5th, we hosted a discussion and released papers focusing on new markets that could potentially mitigate or reduce some of the biggest risks faced by the American people and their broader communities. These “missing markets”  often face obstacles that could be remedied through sound public policy, as illustrated by the authors of four new Hamilton Project proposals.

On Friday, July 25th, we will hold a public event and release five new papers focusing on our nation’s infrastructure challenges – both physical and technological. Our goal is to promote new ideas for building a national infrastructure strategy with the view that infrastructure is a key component of long-term, broadly shared economic growth. This will require finding ways to use existing infrastructure more efficiently and to better target infrastructure spending.

Thank you for your interest and support. We look forward to seeing you at a future event.
