Education is the keystone to opportunity. Time and again, research has demostrated that academic achievement is positively related to earning capacity, civic involvement, political efficacy, and a host of advantageous personal attributes.
Without at least a high school diploma in hand, a young man or woman is destined to remain on the margins of life in the skill-based world of the next millennium. Yet millions of boys and girls, a disproportionate number of whom are from minority families living in America's inner cities, remain trapped in failing schools.
