This project was completed in August 1998 and resulted in the book Atomic Audit: The Costs and Consequences of U.S. Nuclear Weapons Since 1940, edited by Stephen I. Schwartz. These project pages are only occasionally updated and should be considered hisorical.

Technicians working in the ultradry room in the Y-12 Plant (part of the Oak Ridge Reservation at Oak Ridge, Tennessee) wear special air-tight suits to prevent body moisture from damaging nuclear weapons materials. Lithium-deuteride components, which produce the "hydrogen" in hydrogen bombs, must be assembled in such rooms.
