EITC-Eligible Taxpayers: Economic and Demographic Characteristics, 2010

The profiles on this page summarize key characteristics of EITC-eligible taxpayers in each state and in the 100 largest metropolitan areas in 2010. For a more recent snapshot of the EITC-eligible population, see our 2012 national profile here.

Click on the state or metro name in the table below to download a range of information on the EITC-eligible population in your community. Organizations that conduct outreach and education around the federal EITC and/or state versions of the credit can use this information to help inform and tailor their efforts.

Please refer to the Profiles User Guide for an explanation of the information included in each profile and guidance on potential uses and limitations of these estimates.

Note: The estimates in these profiles come from MetroTax, a federal income tax model developed by the Metropolitan Policy Program at Brookings. While they provide useful information about general economic, demographic, and workforce characteristics of the EITC-eligible population, these estimates cannot be used to determine EITC participation rates or error rates. For detailed information on the methods used to create MetroTax and derive estimates of EITC eligibility at the state and local level, see the Technical Appendix.
