Frederick L. Silbernagel III was appointed treasurer and vice president for Finance and Administration for Brookings in April 2002 and in July 2009 became vice president and chief financial officer.
Mr. Silbernagel received his B.S. from Washington & Lee University in 1976 with special attainments in commerce. Before coming to Brookings in 1996, initially as manager of accounting and finance, Mr. Silbernagel had over 20 years of public accounting experience with a significant concentration in not-for-profit organizations and management of large accounting departments. In his current position, Mr. Silbernagel is responsible for the overall financial administration of Brookings, including budget, finance, accounting, the endowment, grants management, procurement and investments.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Greater Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Vice Presidents of Finance of Washington DC Not-for-profits and Universities, and the Vice Presidents of Finance and Administration of Washington DC “think tanks.” He serves on the board of directors and is the chair of the Finance Committee of the Association Mutual Health Insurance Company, a captive insurance company providing health insurance coverage to not-for-profit educational organizations, including Brookings.
