Co-Author of Becoming a Resonant Leader Joins Brookings Executive Education Faculty
Dr. Frances Johnston, emotional intelligence pioneer and thought leader and co-author of Becoming a Resonant Leader (Harvard Business School Press, 2008), will instruct Brookings Executive Education’s Interpersonal Savvy for Leaders course on May 16 – 17, 2012. Dr. Johnston is the co-founder of Teleos Leadership Institute, a global leader in executive and organizational development renowned for its ground breaking work in the area of emotional and social intelligence.
The leadership challenges of the new millennium are unparalleled, and to deal with these challenges, organizations have become more complex. Being an effective leader in today’s complex organizations demands a suite of personal abilities that encompass both the head and the heart, including stamina, courage and emotional intelligence.
This course will capitalize on Teleos Leadership Institute’s years of study and research in the field of emotional intelligence and leadership by providing participants insight into how to develop leadership behaviors that research shows are common among the most effective managers and team leaders. Broadly grouped under the banner of emotional intelligence, effective behaviors involve self-awareness, social awareness, self-management and relationship management. Through this course, participants will become adept at dealing with the complexity involved in leading organizational change and will learn how to excel at building the relationships that result in a fast-moving, adaptive and resonant organizational culture.
In this highly interactive course, participants will more fully understand how emotional and social intelligence is integral to leadership behavior and organizational culture, especially how our actions impact others and how being self-aware is essential to effective leadership. Specifically, participants will develop tools to improve their relationships at work and with stakeholders and improve their own personal renewal for increased resilience and performance. Participants will gain a deeper recognition of their own leadership capabilities and identify areas for their own leadership development. Finally, not only will participants learn, they will also experiment with what they learn during the program, and participants will leave this course with an individualized leadership learning plan for on-going development in interpersonal skills.
