Ethics in Action: Leading with Integrity
How can you best determine what is truly in the public’s interest? How do you decide between two “right” positions? This program will help you develop a new self-awareness as well as tools for moral reasoning and a robust ethical framework to assist in everyday decision making. Explore the meaning of integrity, values, and beliefs, and how these shape our behaviors and direct our actions.
Examine the tensions between personal values and public service responsibilities, and how to address both with integrity. Ethics in Action: Leading with Integrity will help you best determine what is truly in the public interest.
This course is required for the Certificate in Public Leadership. It is also part of the Executive Pathways series, which is required for the Master of Science in Leadership.

About the Instructors
Joanne B. Ciulla is Professor and Coston Family Chair in Leadership and Ethics at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond. Professor Ciulla holds a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in philosophy, and has held academic appointments at the Harvard Business School, the Wharton School, Oxford University, Boston University, and La Salle University. At Wharton she designed and taught the first required business ethics module for MBA students. Professor Ciulla publishes in the areas of leadership studies, business ethics, and the philosophy of work. She also sits on the editorial boards of The Business Ethics Quarterly, and The Journal of Business Ethics.
Lamar Pierce, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Strategy at the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. Lamar's research focuses on the Ethics-Productivity Dilemma: how the same economic and psychological mechanisms that impact employee productivity also influence behavior detrimental to organizational performance and social welfare. This research program requires the study of a broad range of behaviors, from the explicitly illegal to the strategic and self-interested yet not expressly forbidden. His work has appeared in outlets such as Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science, Psych Science, and OBHDP, and has been featured in media outlets such as Forbes, Business Week, Huffington Post, and the Economist.
