BASIC FUNCTION
Assist Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform (ECHCR) scholars with independent research on a broad range of topics related to drug and medical device safety evaluations, comparative effectiveness research, biomedical innovation, and patient engagement. Conduct background research, draft papers, policy briefs, and articles detailing findings; coordinate conferences and other events.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. Strong interest in biomedical science and health policy is required. Candidate should have a minimum of one year of research experience in academia, government, or a research organization. Training or research experience in the fields of epidemiology, molecular biology, genetics, patient safety, or health policy is preferred. Candidate should have Internet researching skills and the capacity to learn job-specific software programs.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Exceptional organizational, communication and writing skills required. Candidate must have the ability to be self-motivated and competent to undertake multiple research and writing assignments simultaneously with minimal supervision. Candidate should have Internet researching skills and the capacity to learn job-specific software programs. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
60% Research
- Conduct research including literature searches, review and synthesis; policy analysis; program evaluation; and basic quantitative data analysis on a broad range of health policy topics that support our collaborations with the Food and
- Drug Administration on drug and medical device safety evaluations, and other topics related to advancing regulatory science.
- Work with investigators and research staff at collaborating research institutions.
- Support Associates and Research Directors in drafting research papers, PowerPoint presentations and policy briefs.
- In collaboration with senior research staff, draft material summarizing research results on specific topics as assigned, for incorporation into working papers and project publications.
- Other research tasks as assigned.
40% Project Management
- Support Associates and Research Directors in project planning and proposal development as needed.
- Support planning and coordination of meetings and conferences on issues related to developing better evidence to inform health care decisions, FDA policy (especially drug safety and effectiveness), and biomedical innovation.
- Other project tasks as assigned.
