Basic Function

The Governance Studies Program at the Brookings Institution is accepting applications for a Senior Fellow with a strong background in bureaucracy, executive administration, or presidential studies. In collaboration with other Brookings scholars, and under the supervision of the Vice President of Governance Studies, he or she will conduct scholarly research, writing, and outreach tasks for book-length publications and shorter policy pieces such as articles and opinion pieces in major newspapers. He/She will also conduct public and private discussions, raise money for research projects, and interact with the media.

 

Education/Experience Requirements

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in political science, government, public policy, or a related discipline or have equivalent experience in public policy or government experience. We are looking for someone with a proven record of distinguished work on issues related to presidential studies and/or executive administration, and a proven record of book publication and publication in professional or academic journals and newspapers.

Knowledge Requirements

A candidate may blend academic excellence with experience in the public or private sectors. The individual must have a proven ability to conduct cutting edge research and outreach with an impact on public policy in addition to competence to undertake and lead research and raise money for research projects.

Salary will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience, and will be commensurate with experience. Starting date is negotiable; however, filling the position by summer 2009, if not sooner, is preferred.
