Basic Function

Tracks money movements, conducts investment research and analysis, and generally contributes to the functioning of the Investment Office. Primary responsibilities involve working with the custodian, consultant and external money managers, and supporting the Chief Investment Officer and the Investment Committee of the Board. Secondary responsibilities involve coordinating efforts with the Controller’s and Development Offices. Many responsibilities are regular or periodic in nature while others are assigned as needed.

Education/Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required. Preference is given to CFA candidates. Minimum of one year of related experience is required. Preference is given to experience related to investment management.

Knowledge Requirements

Detail minded with excellent analytical and quantitative skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to represent the institution appropriately with outside investment and financial management personnel. Experience using Excel, Word and general PC-based office programs. Familiarity with databases is helpful. Familiarity with FactSet, Bloomberg, Baseline or any investment research programs is preferred. Familiarity with accounting is also preferred. Three years commitment is strongly preferred.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

75% Investment Management:

Maintains an on-going tally of the investment funds and monitors their progress. Processes capital calls, distributions and other money moves. Coordinates information flow with representatives of the custodian bank, external consultants, money managers, and others as needed. 

Arranges to receive and sell gifts of marketable securities to the Institution. 

Assists in the management of relationships with the external money managers, including:
• Screening prospective managers for further research.
• Collecting and analyzing investment portfolio and legal & organizational information regarding potential managers.
• Monitoring the investment & general activities of existing managers. 
- These activities involve collecting data; analyzing trends; researching the historical investment market contexts; reviewing investment presentations, offering memoranda and legal agreements; modeling investment strategies; attending and/or conducting meetings; and writing due diligence notes. 

Supports the market information flow to the Investment Office by creating, maintaining and refining a set of regular reports to monitor the investment markets.
• The markets to be analyzed include global equities, bonds, derivatives, commodities, real estate & private equity deals. 
- This is a new project in the Investment Office. 

Assists the CIO in staffing the Investment Committee of the Board.
• Prepares regular reports and coordinates the production of materials for the Investment Committee meetings.
• Researches and writes memoranda on investment topics.
• Takes notes at the Committee meetings and drafts the minutes. 
- These meetings include reports on the activities and results of the existing managers; reports on prospective managers; quantitative analyses and qualitative consideration of theories and practice regarding the asset allocation and investment policies. 

Prepares schedules regarding the investment portfolio and endowment funds in coordination with the Controller’s Office and otherwise assists in the annual audit.

15% Administrative:

The Investment Office does not employ a dedicated secretary to support the CIO or the Office. All team members are expected to pitch in by answering phones and emails, coordinating schedules, maintaining contact lists and procedures documents, making travel arrangements, filing, and generally helping each other.

10% Other:

Performs any and all other duties and responsibilities of a similar nature and character to those above, which may be assigned and directed.
