Basic Function

Serves as senior accountant to provide high level general accounting oversight, including management of all A/R and cash processing, various bank and account reconciliations; the reconciliation of endowment investments; management of all international location books and reconciliations; provides research and analytical support to the Accounting Supervisor and Controller; coordinates accounting between the Controller’s office and Development Office in matters related to gift receipts and handling; management of the month end book closing; management of the permanently restricted asset accounts and journalizing the unitization allocations; and management of various objectives associated with the annual audit.

Education/Experience Requirements

BA/BS required in accounting or business. Minimum 10 years accounting experience required, in positions of increasing complexity; experience in non-profit accounting required.

Knowledge Requirements

Knowledge of Excel, Word and general PC-based office programs required. Knowledge of automated accounting management systems, FactSet, Bloomberg, Baseline or other investment research programs preferred; familiarity with PowerPoint and databases is helpful. Strong computer/spreadsheet skills necessary; working knowledge of nonprofit financial operations and grant administration skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills; must be able to juggle multiple priorities. Must be detail minded with excellent analytical and quantitative skills. Ability to represent the institution appropriately with outside investment and financial management personnel.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

65% Accounting Responsibilities:

General Accounting and Grant Support:
• Prepare quarterly financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Liaison with external auditors and prepare audit and tax schedules
• Prepare journal entries based on accounting research and requests from internal parties
• Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations related to all foreign accounts
• Provide backup for transactional review and posting, and monthly closing process, including reconciling all allocated costs

Prepare Monthly Bank Reconciliations for Various Accounts:
• SunTrust Checking
• NatWest London Account
• Bank of America Account
• Qatari National Bank Accounts (2)

Management of Cash and Accounts Receivable
• Record the monthly press sales journal in the accounting system from information provided by the Press from its separate accounting software
• Recognize monthly deferred revenue
• Reconcile amounts to outsourced fulfillment services reports – Inventory, revenue and receivables
• Management and oversight of A/R and cash receipts from all sources to insure proper and timely recording

Other:
• Research and analyze various financial issues for senior management
• Work on special projects as required
• Manage all financial activities at foreign offices

15% Investment Analyst:

• Act as primary contact with the custodian bank: 
    o Review and analyze complex investment transactions
• Prepare and record monthly investment accounts for the Institution’s asset managers
• Maintains an on-going reconciliation between the monthly reports of the custodian and investment managers, including also the quarterly performance reports from the consultant
• Prepares the quarterly endowment fund unitization spreadsheet and provides information from it to the Accounting and Development Offices

20% Implementation of ERP System:

• Represent the needs of accounting throughout the ERP implementation process
• Ensure that all needs are met for audit and reporting requirements in new system
• Assist with conversion of data to new system
