Erin Karnes is a research associate with the Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform at The Brookings Institution. Ms. Karnes supports the Center’s work in comparative effectiveness research policy and medical product safety surveillance.

Prior to joining Brookings, Ms. Karnes was a senior associate with The Lewin Group, a health care research and consulting firm. There she provided research and project management services on an array of projects for federal and private sector clients. Ms. Karnes supported several major projects pertaining to evidence-based medicine, coverage and reimbursement policy, medical product innovation, and regulation. One such project involved an assessment of the economic impact of the availability of follow-on protein products for the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation within the Department of Health and Human Services.

Prior to joining The Lewin Group in 2004, Ms. Karnes completed a term of service with the National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps Program in Washington, DC. During this period, Ms. Karnes provided HIV prevention education to local youth and participated in weekly team service projects.

Ms. Karnes completed her graduate studies at The Johns Hopkins University, earning a Master of Public Health and a Master of Business Administration. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology from The University of Virginia.
